Review of Gomorrah (2008) by John S — 08 Nov 2009
Chosen a bit randomly by the mrs it was a toss up between this and Il divo, both seemed to be Cannes award winning films about the mafia, we chose this one.
In Italian with English subtitles it was quite hard to follow the plot at times, darting as it did between 5 different themes. The rewards for following it were handsome though as the story develops showing the true grip of the mafia's reach throughout society.
The film had an interesting use of music, the only time you heard it would be when the characters in the film were listening to it, in their car for example, this added a sense of realism to the movie, which I liked, that and the fact that it was in Italian made it all the more realistic to me.
I thought it was a bit long winded though, and found myself struggling to stay awake at times, but maybe thats just me, 2 hr 17 isnt too bad really.
Good film though. I liked it.
