Review of Gomorrah (2008) by Bradley B — 15 Dec 2009
Praised a the "anti-Godfather" of mafia films, Gomorrah paints a painfully realistic depiction of the Camorra crime organization in the Campania region of Italy. Matteo Garone does a superb job of bringing the essence of the book into the film while at the same time weaving Saviano's source material into a narrative appropriate for the medium.
In terms of conveying the stark realities and consequences of a mafia crime organization, no other film comes close. The Godfather is a great story and a better movie overall, but if you want to get down to the gritty truth that is organized crime at its worst, see this film.
