Review of Gomorrah (2008) by Jebus C — 13 Feb 2010
Too many characters and not enough good ones. It feels like an overblown and frankly tedious attempt to follow the gritty realism of films like City of God. I appreciate the attempts to stick to the source material and stick it to the modern Italian mafia but in doing so the film conversion lacks flow and is overly ambitious in trying to capture too many different strands of the same organisation.
Characters are offscreen for 30 or 40 minutes at times and they're not strong enough to survive in the memory. Very disappointing.
