Review of Gomorrah (2008) by William H — 22 Aug 2010
Sopranos, crossed the Wire, shot in a seaside suburb of Naples, Italy. Never seen anything quite like it. Focuses on the Neapolitan crime organization known as the Camorra, which is larger than the Mafia, but structured to be decentralized.
Like the Wire, it doesnâ??t dumb much down for the viewer and people have described it as didactic. At times, it feels like someone just ran several camera and took it all in, switching between tentacles of Camorraâ??s effect on the town and its people.
Based on a book by a writer who spent his life researching the Camorra, and now will spend the rest of it in hiding. From the Wiki: â??The Italian Minister of the Interior has granted him a permanent police escortâ?¦the book has sold almost 4 million copies worldwide.
