Review of Going My Way (1944) by Neil O — 08 May 2010
Probably one of the least substantial Best Picture Oscar winners ever however it is highly entertaining despite the hokey sentimentality and contrived plot devices. Barry Fitzgerald gives perhaps the finest, funniest and most touching portrayal of old age that has yet reached the screen whilst he and Bing work pure magic together.
Bing is a total delight. A good selection of tunes from Johnny Burke and Jimmy Van Heusen provides Bing with one of his greatest hits - Swinging On A Star. Good-hearted schmaltz.
