Review of Going in Style (2017) by Larry S — 06 Apr 2017
Although I found the original Going In Style much more fun over 30 years ago, I found this remake less fun to watch. I was 38 years younger watching George Burns and Art Carney in the original. Today I am in the same age group as the seniors in the movie.
So I found this new version a bit bittersweet. But watching Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Alan Arkin together is great fun and their chemistry works perfectly on the screen. Add in Ann Margaret as a senior love interest for Arkin (did I really call Ann Margaret a senior interest) and you have an excellent cast.
Sadly I found just as much difficulty getting out of my theater seat as Michael Caine did in the bank chair in the movie. This one hit a little too close to home. It was easier laughing at the original version but I understood the story much better this time around.
