Review of Going in Style (2017) by Robby K — 20 Jul 2017
Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin, and Michael Caine have wonderful chemistry, and just as much charisma as ever. Which is why it's a shame that the film they get to present that in, isn't all that competent.
Their are very few laughs in the film (none if you take out what's in the trailer), essentially all spanning off the ever-constant, but never funny one-note joke of "They're old". We get it.
It's not new, and it's not working. This is a remake of a better, yet still not great 1979 film of the same name. Nothing in this movie will surprise you, it's the film equivalent of vanilla ice cream: It will do the job for some, but if it's that unenthusiastic about itself, why bother at all?
