Director Paul Haggis sums it all up "If we can believe something, then we don't really have to think for ourselves." Scientology might seem like a silly "religion", a pun made mostly to mess with the IRS, but in reality it's a dark and suppressing cult with a paranoid leader that has an iron grip over his congregation.
Like every other cult. This one seems less fun, though.
