Review of Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992) by Gavin S — 14 Jun 2007
Ultimately, this isn't really a Godzilla movie, but rather a Mothra movie where Godzilla kinda shows up once in a while. It's not a bad film, however. Godzilla's suit is decent, even if it's still basically the same design as the previous two films and the Mothra larva looks great.
This film also introduces a new monster in the form of the "Black Mothra" Battra. Battra is a truly awesome monster, although it is a shame that instead of creating a new roar for him they just slapped him with Rodan's.
The monster action is pretty good and the city destruction is well done. Unfortunately, the adult Mothra is really shabby-looking. The thing looks like a cross between a stuffed animal and a parade float.
Also, giving Mothra laser beam antennae seems cool on paper, but really kind of takes away part of what makes her character so great. In the end the film is pretty good, but it could have been better.
