Review of Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992) by Rob B — 22 Jul 2009
As an avid fan of Japanese culture, I could not pass this one up when it graced my tv screen. And who ever would've thought that, at the heart of this tale, lay an environnemental message? Plus, the Cosmos (two identical twins representing the human link to the natural world) singing what seemed like soft J-pop songs to Mothra (Nature) were a nice addition. Godzilla obviously represents mankind's destructive side and I'm uncertain as to Battra... maybe he represents Chaos?
The big minus in this film was (obviously) the overdubbing... is it so goddamn hard to put SUBTITLES instead? That, plus the fact that the battles and disasters were formless.
