Review of Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (2003) by Will H — 06 Nov 2008
After G X Mecha G, I expected an awesome bash that kept with the spirit of the last movie, and would have as strong story and character development as well as monster development. Sadly it fell through. All the love in this one was placed on Mothra, who is cool, but is way over exposed at this point in the Millenium edition. Of 6 movies, Mothra is in 3 of them.
The cinematography isn't as good, and ending is nice, but it doesn't feel like it genuinely built towards it. Felt very tacked on. I would have liked to have seen what the implications of Japan having that kind of weapon at their disposal would have affected the rest of the world. I think it would have been cool to see another country try to control some other monsters as Godzilla goes elsewhere to reek havoc. I would have liked to see one or two more monsters go out of control, and ofcourse have the movie build to the rematch between godzilla and Mecha G. Sadly it was not that. It was still fun. But after watching it's precursor, it's very disappointing.
Oh and the suit actors for this, were flat and terrible.
