Review of Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956) by Jeremy H — 09 Sep 2007
An entirely unnecessary American version of the Japanese classic that cuts out imperative scenes of anti-nuclear bomb discussion. Misses the point completely, focusing as much on a love triangle and the popularity of Steve Martin the journalist as it does the monster attacking Tokyo.
Avoid this at all cost and see the original without dubbing. That's how this classic is meant to be seen to have its full impact. Raymond Burr popping up and looking serious in a few scenes does not make it any more interesting.
