Review of Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla (2002) by R.john X — 26 Jun 2011
I have to say that I am not a fan of the movies where the spunky humans take on Godzilla with any success. Sure they do not win this fight BUT the fact that they severely wound Godzilla is disturbing to me.
Plus the idea that the 1950s Godzilla is a skeleton that must be kept in water is a strange one. All the technology in this flick is a bit silly, actually, now that I think about it. DNA Computing? Laser canons? The Absolute Zero weapon that if this was written by Kurt Vonnegut would have had a Cat's Cradle ending there in the ocean.
Still there are some good fight scenes. Especially, I love the ball of fire breath that rolls up before the WHOOOOSH. Great touch of the newer films. The human story is kinda hilarious at points, mainly the little girl talking to the plant and the way Takuma tries to pick up Shaku with the story of how his wife died is particularly incoherent.
Not the best place to start or end up in the overall cannon.
