Godzilla felt epic, thrilling and spectacular from beginning to end. Edwards provides a superb take on the Godzilla icon, stamping his style with clever angles and intensely beautiful shots held to feel every breath of Godzillas roar.

You feel major decisions were made to keep a particular tone, risky ones which really paid off. There was a sense of realism as the background was explored senseless early on, building tension for an ultimate finale.

You could predict what was coming but nothing could brace you for how it was going to be delivered. Instead of a popcorn flick we were provided with art, every minute thoughtful and intelligent. I feel it lacked in emotion towards any real likeable character (after Cranston) and also debatable pacing issue however I felt the latter contributed to the movies tone and agenda.

Leaving Godzilla the focal point and shying from giving anything away early on really helped build the tension. For me, only now is Godzilla a monster icon and with devastating effect.
