Review of Godzilla (2014) by Jayshaun M — 17 Jan 2015
Spoilers - If you are going to make a Godzilla movie you need to realize that no matter what people are going to root for Godzilla. Luckily it was possible in this remake. Also trying to make the movie all about the monster would cause it to fail.
The main focus on the movie is the personal relationships and battles that people face. Sprinkled through the movie are a lot of clichés that wear a little thin, like main character just leaves the military but ends up being a a hero who must help fight again.
It is these parts that bring the movie down. In addition the MuFOs or other giant monsters are pretty lame and remind me of leftovers from Starship Troopers. On the positive is Godzilla he is awesome and looks great, finally a Godzilla movie where he gets the treatment he deserves.
This was fun for a mindless monster flick but not much more than that pretty average overall.
