Review of Godzilla (2014) by Joey J — 10 Mar 2015
Some good visuals, but absolutely nothing else. The characters in this film make the Star Wars prequel characters look Shakespearean by comparison. This film is more of a Cloverfield rip-off than a Godzilla film.
The story centers on two blandly designed insect-monsters while the title character remains entirely incidental to the plot. Godzilla has less than 10 minutes of screen-time and could have been completely removed from the film without changing the story at all.
Also, you don't get to see any actual monster action until the last few minutes. Whenever something cool starts to happen, the film cuts away to show us more of the boring protagonist and his useless, annoying wife.
