Review of Godzilla (2014) by J. Scott F — 19 Jan 2015
A surprisingly fresh take on an overused B movie concept. I wasn't expecting much, because - come on - what else can you really do with a Godzilla movie that hasn't already been done? Well, you can add a credible mythology, a good script, and some great acting.
The first act of the film is brilliant and unique prior to entering more familiar territory - but even when the monsters start destroying the city, it has more depth due to the structure and mythology embedded within the film.
