Review of Godzilla 1985 (1985) by Gary M — 27 Mar 2008
OMG, you have to get to the last scene and the closing theme. Man, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. This is, clearly, not so much the legend reborn reinventing of the Godzilla myth that we'll see in the later series so much is it is the final say in the Godzilla we'd known and loved through the 60's and 70's; this film owes far more to the Kaiju of "Mosura" or "Smog Monster" than to the later epics. For one thing, this is probably the last time when SCIENCE is the hero, triumphing over beasts of men and monsters despite the lack of government funding ;).
But that last bit, as soon as the techobeat started, I knew it was 1985 all over again, but when the lyrics hit? ... I'm still giggling. First class Godzilla, five thumbs up if I had them.
