Godzilla 1985 has heart and tries very hard to keep you interested but fails because Steve Martins story breaks up the Main Plot. And confuses the audience. Sadly the American-ized version is very very sub- standard.
The original uncut Japanese version is a five star film. (Godzilla 1984). The Return of Godzilla. Just realsed on blu-ray by Kraken. I have a great respect for Raymond Burr who reprised his role of Steve Martin from the Godzilla.
But the Hollywood cut that added his story butchered the originals sub plots which make this movie phenomenal. I suggest seeing Godzilla 1984.
