Review of Godzilla 1985 (1985) by John S — 21 Nov 2009
The first entry in the Heisei Godzilla cycle is not only a solid reboot but one of the best films of the series. The script is smart and tackles the Cold War perfectly while never losing sight of the title monster.
Nakano improves his effects work greatly, the score is original, there are a couple of fun cameos and the ending is a kicker. The American cut is the poster child for "bastardization" but is worth seeing for Raymond Burr and its political implications.
