God's Not Dead 2.

Initial Reaction: Still not dead?

Main Characters.

Grace Wesley: She's a high school teacher played by Melissa Joan Hart.

Plot Summary.

During a session in Grace's class, a question about history is asked, and during that discussion, the topic of Jesus and God surfaces. At first it doesn't seem all that damaging.

But things change when charges are brought against Miss (Mrs? Ms?) Wesley that she is preaching in her class; that is a violation of the separation of church and state. She is asked to apologize and take back what she said.

But she says no and she takes the fight to court.

SCORING.

Main Characters.

Grace is a likable character and it's easy to root for her. But there's nothing really outstanding about that character. SCORE: 7.

Supporting Cast.

The rest of the cast didn't make much of an impression on me either. The prosecutor are just a couple of average guys. The jurors are you basic people. And the judge is you average judge. SCORE: 5.

Plot.

I like the parts of the film where the main plot is in play; the parts where the two sides go at it. However (just like in the first film), there are subplots that felt like they were tacked on to preach to the audience the power of God. SCORE: 5.

Originality.

Sure, this film goes by the book when it comes to a courtroom drama. But it does have a nice twist near the end that makes it a bit different than the rest. SCORE: 6.

Violence Factor.

These guys fight with their words, not their fists (they would be arrested in a heartbeat if they got in a fistfight in a courtroom). SCORE: 5.

Other Moral Issues.

This film tries to appeal itself to a non-Christian audience, but it ends up ruining that by preaching and by quoting from the Bible. SCORE: 5.

Final Score (out of 60): 33 % Score: 55%.

It may work for the intended audience, but not much more than that.
