Review of Gods and Generals (2003) by Thom B — 08 Nov 2007
Now a lot of people hate this movie for being "overly-poetic" and long, but I'm sorry...this is one of my favorite movies...Stephen Lang's portrayal of General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson is one of the most memorable performances I've ever seen.
..he was a devout Christian who understood the problems of the Confederacy, but he viewed himself as a soldier...Like the apostle Peter, he was dreadfully aware that those who live by the sword, die by the sword.
Manassas and Fredericksburg are quite drawn out...but the on-screen production of Chancellorsville is amazingly presented...best part of the movie!
