Review of Gods and Generals (2003) by Isaac S — 23 Apr 2008
OK...most people are going to disagree with me on this one, but this is my all time favorite movie. It does an excellent job of portraying what the South was fighting for and why it was worth fighting for. This one ALWAYS makes me cry. It's unfortunate that most people cannot understand this movie.
If you think that the war was about slavery, that the South was evil, and Abe Lincoln was the greatest President then you will probably hate this movie. On the other hand, if you know that the South was fighting for their freedom, you prefer to call the "Civil War" the "Second War for Independence" and can't bring yourself to believe that millions of Southern boys were willing to die to preserve slavery and millions of Northerners were willing die to free them then you will LOVE this movie!
