Review of Gods and Generals (2003) by David G — 18 Aug 2009
Gods and Generals has a pretty infamous reputation for its long-windedness and while it is deserved I certainly wouldn't go so far as to call the film boring, in fact I found it to be quite an engaging experience.
True it doesn't have the focus of its predecessor Gettysburg and you really have to be in the mood (the DVD sat on my shelf for a long time before I felt like tackling it) but the relationships and interactions between the characters as well as what they have to say can be quite fascinating and the great cast (Stephen Lang is incredible as "Stonewall" Jackson), impressive battle sequences and many memorable scenes should see you nicely through the 3 1/2 hour running time.
