Review of Gods and Generals (2003) by Peter P — 28 Oct 2010
Great looking retelling of the civil war. Being Canadian and not a huge history buff I can't say that I really know all that much about this part of American history, so that did limit my sense of placement and storyline, yet saying that it is still a great film.
It is massive in scope with a very large cast and some amazing acting. In particular Robert Duvall is great, but the real star of the movie is Stephen Lang, who does a completely amazing job as General Stonewall Jackson.
The main downside to Gods and Generals is it has a very long running time and an absurd amount of gratuitous beards, but other then that it is a great movie, although when I started watching it I did not know that it was part one of a trilogy, so know that going in and that will probably help in understanding the scope of the story being told.
