If you're looking for a summer blockbuster-style war movie, this is not for you. If you're looking for a thoughtful, accurate depiction of the men and battles of the Civil War, look no further.
The film focuses as much on the spiritual beliefs of the participants as it does on the actual battles. While many have criticized it for the strong Christian slant, as a Christian myself I found it very refreshing and uplifting.
Great acting by Stephen Lang and Robert Duvall. The theatrical version was great, but the extended version is even better, adding additional depth to the story and including major battles that were cut from the original release.
