Liking Goddess is easy - this Aussie musical comedy is undeniably charming and its leading lady, Laura Michelle Kelly, is captivating. This bright, locally made, rice cracker-thin musical comedy is a pleasant, diverting way to kill two hours. There are some thoughtful scenes about the dilemma women too-often face between personal and professional success - Szubanski delivers a cutting diatribe on the issue - help ground the film's breezy, joyful tone. Low on pretension and big on charm, Lamprell's film is infectiously feel-good even if the level of acting doesn't quite match up to Kelly and Keating's ability to belt out a decent tune. It's Magda Szubanski who provides the film's major highlight though - a humorous musical number that begins in a boardroom. Goddess is a light, well-intentioned effort that blends the comedy and musical genres. Star Laura Michelle Kelly has been performing on London's West End for more than a decade but this marks her first leading role in a feature film. Kelly's beautiful voice and happy-go-lucky nature will charm many. While there's fun to be had, it's a shame the screenplay implies a low level of intelligence on the part of the audience. So much of the story rings false. As daft as the premise proves to be, this likeably lightweight movie never works its way out of the viewer's good graces.

VERDICT: "In The Zone" - [Mixed Reaction] These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own. If you consider cinema, ask for people's opinion on the film. (Films that are rated 2.5 or 3 stars).
