Review of God Is Great and I'm Not (2001) by Heather G — 20 Feb 2010
"God Is Great, And I'm Not", aside from being a verifiable fact, is a quirky little movie and as I am a quirky little person I rather (surprisingly) liked it. The interactions between the lead characters reminded me of Ingmar Bergman's "Scenes From A Marriage"... without all the drama. Ha haha. But seriously, Michelle and Francois' dynamic has the same alternately delicious and frenzied exchange as Bergman's couple in distress- their moods change with a lightning quickness- but, unlike "Scenes...", the characters in "God Is Great..." seem to emerge relatively unscathed from their emotional free-for-all. In the end, I chalked this "bark is greater than bite" quality up to offbeat editing, hit and run camerawork, and Audrey Tautou's bewitching smile.
As if that weren't enough, it's "To be continued..." Quelle joie! Je ne peux pas attendre pour voir ce qui se passe ensuite!
