Review of God Grew Tired of Us (2006) by Julia H — 04 Feb 2008
Sensitive, kind, urgent, necessary, enlightening, inspiring., even at times poignantly funny. Even if you've never heard of the Lost Boys you have to see this movie. The great thing about it is that the way it portrays the story is not like something to make us depressed and guilty.
It has a light touch and quietly powerful jabs at American culture, our ignorance of others, and our general "live and let live" society. It's never heavy-handed and it even though it may be a bit late in the game on the whole "lost boys" issue, it's still possibly the best movie of its kind that I've seen in recent memory.
An excellent documentary. Shame on the Academy for not nominating it.
