Review of God Bless America (2012) by Miles M — 16 Aug 2012
Very, very dark but funny (Bobcat's trademark) satire of NATURAL BORN KILLERS, but with more insight for my money than Olivery Stone's film offered. Murray is superb as the simple, decent man who is completely aghast and horrified by what he sees in American culture.
His solution seems reasonable ... until a teenager accosts him and spurs him to repeat his seemingly senseless crime, again and again. As a metaphor of youth culture driving and controlling mass media, her relationship with him is complex and believable.
This film ranks up there with SHAKES THE CLOWN as a politically incorrect film with bite and heart.
