Review of God Bless America (2012) by Steven M — 21 Oct 2012
Dashing around the country in a stolen car blowing away the blowhards who are front-and-center in the ongoing debasement of American culture? What could be more fun than that? This is my kind of road flick! A farce which might have teleported from the Putney Swope era of the early 1970s, God Bless America's polemical scenes are good, its comically violent ones even better.
I see that some film critics have somberly noted that the movie shines its light on us as being no better than the gasbags being shot because we revel in their destruction. Nonsense. The movie's not that meta and it's not that complicated.
It's just about Bill Murray's little brother and a cute teenaged girl running around in comic depravity shooting, stabbing and garroting a bunch of jerks. My only complaint is that they didn't shoot enough of them.
