Review of God Bless America (2012) by Joshua V — 26 May 2013
The two leads are charming, for the most part, and the concept is daring, but, on a very fundamental level, this movie fails by making its characters flat-out unlikeable. The leads are written as self-important, closed-minded hypocrites who speak not in conversation but in angry blog rants.
The only opportunity the film gives us to care for them is in their odd father/daughter relationship which goes sadly underdeveloped. In theory, the ideas are, at least, very interesting. In fact, the two lead actors make the film as engaging as it is.
