Review of Gnaw (2008) by Sarah C — 22 Oct 2009
Gnaw is yet another by-the-books U.K. variation on Texas Chainsaw Massacre as bunch of English blokes travel to a cottage deep in the woods where a loony retard butchers up beautiful youths and serves them to the guests as well as in his moving taco stand.
Naturally, the gang is systematically picked off one by one, ground up, and eaten by unknowing other friends. There's not a lot of originality or unique moments offered by this retread of familiar territory, though the final 10-15 minutes is somewhat rousing, which is a shame since this movie is only 76 minutes long.
There's a good use of gore, which makes up for rather dull deaths. The story isn't much either (then again, what is at such a small timeframe). You almost don't even care or sympathize with any of the characters.
I'd have to say the most exciting character is probably the butcher who, when not butchering the people, he's walking around like a hulking menace through the woods with his fur coat & mask, and pitchfork, stalking the cast.
Overall, a very disappointing release form the usually great horror distributor Dark Sky Films.
