Review of Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) by Kyle O — 05 Sep 2009
Wow, this is a very well made film about the world of salesmen and the challenges and stress they go through just to stay ahead.
I just saw this for the first time tonight and man was I blown away. The dialogue is incredible and very fast paced and the loose comedy that is shown comes out of nowhere.
Jack Lemmon and Al Pacino are the senior salesmen, the ones who have been around the longest and are desperate to make a comkeback. Both give off very believable performances. Lemmon portrays his character as the desperate man who will do just about anything to make a sale. While Pacino plays it calm and easy to make a sale.
Ed Harris also come in as a rough and tough guy salesmen who doesn't like to be treated like a slave, like someone's bitch and first mentions what it is that happens later on.
Alec Baldwin and Kevin Spacey come in as the managers of the company who give these salesmen the job to compete and make a sal otherwise they get fired. Spacey plays the character as an emotionaless guy who is just following orders, while Baldwin comes in only at the beginning to set the stage and plays it as an asshole.
As you can see the cast is stunned with A class actors. Definitely worth a watch. I still have yet to watch the special features on the 2nd disc.
5 out of 5.
