Review of Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) by Niresh N — 24 May 2010
Glengarry Glen Ross is an incredibly well acted bore. I really wanted his movie to be great, and with a cast of acting legends how could it not be? Pacino, Spacey, Lemon, Harris, Arkin and a brief stint by Alec Baldwin I was expecting much. And from each of them I got it.
It is the movie itself where the seams pull apart, if they were even stitched together in the first place. That's not to say that the story is "bad", it's just not a movie. The plot isn't engaging as much as it's an auditorium for these talented actors to exhibit their craft. Unfortunately it's less Hollywood Bowl and more YMCA gymnasium.
100 minutes of high caliber acting shoehorned into a story that could be summarized in 10 seconds are not the makings of a great movie. I'm afraid I'd have to say skip this one. Just watch Baldwin's performance on YouTube instead.
