Review of Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) by Nikhil M — 24 Aug 2012
Glengarry Glen Ross is so phenomenally good, it amazes me it isn't in the social lexicon of must-see movies. Every single second of this 100 minute movie is acted with such expertise, its dialogue delivered with such magnificence, no other word comes to mind except "perfection.".
With an ensemble cast consisting of the greatness of Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, and Kevin Spacey; few movies have ever been so lucky. Based on the Pulitzer-prize winning play of the same name, Glengarry Glen Ross is about a group of down on their luck salesmen that are forced into a sales contest for their jobs. The top two salesmen get to keep their jobs...everybody else gets canned. Forced into desperation, one of the salesmen hatches a plan to rob the office, steal the best leads, and sell them to a rival company. Now some people might think that sounds a bit dull and/or uninteresting, but with David Mamet's absolutely flawless script and the engrossing performances to back it up, Glengarry Glen Ross is a hidden gem that only the most narrow-minded filmgoers will not love.
