Review of Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) by Nader K — 11 Sep 2010
Ricky Roma: You never open your mouth until you know what the shot is.
A thoroughly enjoyable film, despite the fact that very little actually happens. Much of the action is omitted, in favour of dialogue and re-telling of events. This dialogue however is sharp, snappy and witty, and the script as a whole is spot on. The all-star cast work well together, with each of the salesman making their marks on the film. Set almost interily in one or two rooms, and with a fairly basic plot, the film can be summarised as simple yet effective. Everything that is said has meaning, and every action, though few have consequences. Jack Lemmon in particular is enticing as an almost down-and-out salesman, and the twist involving his character at the end is unexpected. Overall very enjoyable, just dont expect much to happen.
