Review of Glass (2019) by David P — 19 Jan 2019
Glass is the third movie in M. Night Shyamalan's superhero trilogy. It seems to be getting split reviews(no pun intended), but I'm not sure why because it's one of the best films I've seen in years.
James McAvoy deserves an award for his portrayal of his character(s), as he flips from one personality to the next with such emotional grace, it's frightening. His character, the Beast, is so terrifying, you may pee your pants a bit. It's not a perfect movie, in that there's a scene set up for a major fight at the end in an elegant glass building that never happens, but it's a form of misdirection, with plenty of other satisfying moments to fill its place.
For me, the ending was cathartic. Someone does die at the end(I won't tell you which one), and I mourned his loss, as I wanted him to win and carry on. The ending also gives a sense of empowerment: Believe in the power inside you. It's real.
I don't think anyone else cried in the theater like I did, but that message is very personal for me, as I have battled that against the world which tells you to believe what everyone else believes and be mediocre, to follow the rules, don't believe in extraordinary people or purpose, because there is none. So when the message is given that we have amazing power inside us, I cried.
This movie is nothing short of brilliant. Willis, Jackson, and McAvoy bring their A game with amazing performances. Run to the theater to see this one. And see it again the next day. It's worth every penny.
