Review of Give My Regards to Broad Street (1984) by Henry H — 16 Dec 2018
Saw this with my girlfriend the second day it appeared in theatres. The theatre was mostly empty, and we left about an hour into it. It's basically a blow job from Paul to himself, and the new versions of Beatles' songs, if they can be called "new" versions, don't come close to the Fabs' versions.
Best bit: "Ballroom Dancing," but, otherwise, this is as much of a cinematic triumpb as "Magical Mystery Tour," which is to say someone with a lot of money has written a tepid screenplay and has the means to get it produced, and here it it.
That said, this will be a nice example of Sir Paul's body of media after he's gone, for future generations to study. But picture the musical albums of Robert Downey Jr. or Bruce Willis and you'll get a sense of the quality of "Give My Regards To Broad Street.
