Review of Girls Trip (2017) by Jon C — 21 Jul 2017
An enjoyably, crass, laugh-out loud comedy.
Proves that women can still tickle the funnybone in Hollywood.
Not since 'Bridesmaids' has a group of females taken the viewer on a raunchy night out on the town.
Every woman out there could use a girls trip out from their typical, rote lives and these 4 have been close since college.
Yet as time went on they focused on each of their hopes and dreams changing sometimes for the better, others not so much.
Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish are a dime a dozen.
They do everything from partying to drinking to having the biggest sexual escapades.
Ryan is married to her best friend but it isn't all sunshine and roses on the inside being that he's cheated on her more than once, Sasha is a successful blogger like TMZ but she needs one more story to make ends meet, Lisa is a mom, single and living with her mother, and Dina is the party animal always on the prowl.
A business trip for Ryan's career has these women get back to what they used to be back in the day yet it may expose more secrets and tear them apart than anything else.
Not only are the laughs in great supply but the film also has a great heart with it to boot.
Plus the end wonderfully touches upon modern feminism and womanhood; we're so afraid of being aloe we'd rather take the abuse, no one has power over you unless you surrender it, you can still do what you love, no business is worth screwing over people's lives, it's ok to get back into the swing of things, and letting loose may be what we need.
Like I said the comedy is so raw from sex and bodily humor to vulgarness.
It's all in good fun though.
At last, this is a great example of an estrogen-fueled comedy that can be sweet and sour together.
