Review of Girlfriend Experience (2008) by Francois N — 12 Mar 2010
Better than most movies of the type because there's no exploitation to speak of. Sasha Grey is and always has been increditble, she's in there somewhere and is a powerful presence but seems so masked that you don't get a fraction of who she is from her lines which are often inexplicably stuttered/repeated/restarted.
She's more effective in presence than for her acting skills... but.. virtually the entire cast can't act. It's something so profoundly strange that I hope it was intentional. The story is repetiive pointless and miserably boring but has enough of a pace to keep the mind from going totally numb.
The weirdest part is that I wouldn't mind seeing more pseudo mainstream expositions on the fictional lives of, not escorts, but amateur models. There are more than a few with more acting chops than Sasha, how would capture and command a scene better than Grey, who are more screen worthy.
You take 'em as they come I guess.
