Review of Girlfriend Experience (2008) by Ollie W — 07 Nov 2011

Enjoyable, beautifully shot Soderbergh experiment, with Sash Grey apparently and somewhat effectively pastiching herself as the call girl who submits to Male fantasies, "becoming anyone's dream", despite her lifeless depiction (a stark contrast to her frighteningly intelligent, colorful real-life character) of Chelsea/Christine, and several excellent turns from non-actors around her.

Amongst the onslaught of cold, shiny surfaces, repetitious rooms and scenarios and empty, distant characters their is thankfully a lot of humor in the mostly improvised script, the first and last 'exchanges' particularly amusing, and while it's obvious Soderbergh is attempting to assert that everything in our current economical climate is a financial or mutually beneficial exchange, better work could have been done with the script - perhaps illuminating more details of the intriguing, hollow, reclusive existence of those who provide The Girlfriend Experience.
