Review of Girlfriend Experience (2008) by Julie S — 06 Apr 2012
I was completely mesmerized with this film. Yet again Steven Soderbergh reminds me why he is on of the finest working directors today. This is a character sketch film which has deeper routed meaning about men and what they really might want from an Escort, which is usually not sex.
Theres also something being said about our economy and business in general. What we do for money, how we do it. Consider this a multi-layered film that has much more going on that what is simply at the surface.
Sasha Grey is beautiful and sadly lost as she drifts from on client to another lying to herself that she doesn't feel anything for them or about her situation. While I thought she played the role to perfection I wonder how she would do with a Director OTHER than Soderbergh.
It helps to have one of the best guiding you. One of the best of 2009 for me easily.
