Review of Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) by Debbie W — 07 Jun 2011
If you enjoy watching people stare at each other. Heck if you enjoy watching paint being mixed or for that matter watching paint dry then by golly this is the movie for you. What a wicked waste of an amazing cast, costumes and sets to die for.
When will people learn that if you want to tell a really good story the first thing you have to have is a script! The redeeming grace of this very, very boring film is the slavish devotion to Vermeer's paintings which are portrayed at random places in the film.
The cinematography was nominated for an academy award and is quite incredible. As for the work itself? I just can't find entertainment in watching ScarJo lick her lips for 3 count them 3 minutes. Do yourself a favour and visit an art gallery if you really want to be entertained by this kind of media.
