Review of Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003) by Tor M — 02 Dec 2017
Johannes Vermeer's new house assistant is something special. She is very pretty, some like her a bit too much, others are more sceptical about her presence and unexperienced ways. She does what she is told, but when Vermeer himself ask her to model for one of his pieces, things turn tricky - what will his jealous wife say?
Solid performances by Scarlett Johansson as the girl and Colin Firth as Vermeer. It looks very well dated, and the scenery looks like the guys pictures at times. Some subplots are added on this film based on a book based on a picture. I wrote a piece of this special adaptation some years ago, but I never read the book or saw the film (haha, teachers) but it's really a nice film.
Nothing exciting, but something pretty and interesting as it's loosely based on things that may have happened. The true story will probably never be told.
6.5 out of 10 girls in pearls.
