Review of Girl, Interrupted (1999) by Caress T — 31 May 2010
A touching, thoughtful film about a young woman named susanna kaysen (winona ryder) who is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. she soon checks herself into a mental hospital and finds friendship with the other mental patients, and forms a special bond with lisa rowe (angelina jolie), who is a sociopath.
as susanna's stay in the hospital progresses, she soon develops a better understanding on the way the human mind works, especially with her fellow patients. ryder gives a great performance as susanna, and viewers can very much feel her pain as she almost drives herself to insanity.
angelina jolie also gives a spectacular performance as her destructive, brutally honest attitude towards everyone and everything staples itself into your mind. the supporting cast is quite excellent as well, with whoopi goldberg, brittany murphy, clea duvall, elisabeth moss, and jared leto give great memorable performances.
this is worth a watch if you enjoy thought-provoking, deep dramas on the human mind. it will definitely leave you with many questions though.
