Review of Girl, Interrupted (1999) by Sara F — 25 Oct 2017
This movie has haunted me for years. I'm glad to finally have a place to say something. First of all, if you want to see what borderline personality disorder, see Fatal Attraction, a movie about a woman who really portrays the disorder.
OMG. How many people have walked away from this thinking they have this disorder and allowed their counselors to diagnose them with this? Also, what with the supportive staff? Really? Are we supposed to believe being dunked in a cold tub is therapeutic for someone who doesn't want to get out of bed? I didn't read the book and I don't want to.
If you are a young woman watching this, thinking you have BPD, take one of those online personality disorder tests, but only after you turn 21. The biggest question to ask yourself is this, "do you feel empty inside?" If you do, then yes, you may have this.
But if you're a bundle of nerves, not getting enough sleep, hormones raging because of your youth, and you're confused and frustrated, you don't have BPD. And those places were hell holes.
I'm glad most of them are gone or abandoned and rotting away.
