Review of Girl in Progress (2012) by Liz O — 29 May 2012
This film isn't bad...BUT! after the 1st act I became annoyed b/c this was basically a meta film. I couldn't stop thinking about how I could feel the writer or director just taking all the film school plot points and structure and gave them to a precocious teen who tries to act them out.
That idea in and of itself would've been great if they had the stones to veer off the path and extrapolate on these scenarios and show that they would never work if anyone tried to use them, specially a teen.
Ansiedad is the poster girl for "too smart for your own good" and this little girl should have crashed and burned with such a ludicrous plan. Instead its a world where movie people never ask basic questions that normal people would and even when a person tells you exactly what they're going to do no one believes them.
So you may ask why isn't the film bad? It's not bad, just Hollywood.
