Review of Ginger Snaps (2000) by G. K — 15 Jan 2009

It's a fact that werewolf movies usually suck. The main reason for this is that is very hard to create a realistic werewolf, and not kill the atmophere with bad special effects. Ginger Snaps doesn't have good effects really, they actually border awful.

However the director does something clever: Instead of showing a werewolf and scaring you, the movie scares you with its felt-precence. So it gets tense without seeing any crap FX. And the story is really interesting and the background theme of two goth sisters is very cool.

Ok, it is a teenage movie, and a werewolf movie, but still the combination is miraculously great ! Recommended to horror fans and cult movie lovers!
