Review of Ginger Snaps (2000) by Chris G — 10 May 2011
I really loved this, and I'm not much of a werewolf fan. However, I am a fan of death-obsessed goth girls (although they're not technically goth). Using lycanthropy as a metaphor for puberty was refreshing, just as the changes to typical werewolf lore were.
Performances were solid all throughout, and there was definite chemistry between leads Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle. They really came across as being sisters devoted to one another (so much so that they played sister again in another film).
The film did drag on a bit near the end, though, and the ending was a little too abrupt for me. Overall, though, this was very entertaining, and I highly recommend. Especially if you like a little sardonic humor with your horror.
